The Walking Dead Empty The Walking Dead

Post by Mr. Cuddles Sat Dec 01, 2018 5:02 pm

Today seemed to be the usual day, come to the bus stop, sit and wait while listening to the sounds of busy people. Being in the city was still intimidating, but it was how he had to get himself use to things again. The doctor recommended small doses of exposure to sounds that make him uncomfortable, and there were days it was tough. This particular bus stop was a good spot for it, he could hear everything from all sides, see everything too. Any sounds he heard he would try to name what it was making that sound, any loud booms he had to focus on what could be making it just to feel safe. It had been a year since the incident and life still wasn't normal, or would ever be. There was a lot that happened, but he was getting through it thanks to his family.

"Monty!" called out a voice nearby as they approached with a happy stride.

Looking up from his phone the young man glanced over in the direction and smiled "Joseph, what up bro?" he stood up and the two hugged. It was his cousin-one he hadn't seen in a while since he had been out of town on business. "Not much, glad to see you doing okay". Joseph smiled and patted Monty on the head. They were close and grew up together, their dads were brothers so they too always held a special bond.

"I'm okay, trying to be" Monty faintly smiled.

Joseph looked around "Doing this again?" he knew why Monty was out there and supported the idea as long as it didn't hurt his mental state.

"...Yeah, it helps a little. I know I won't be normal" the two sat down on the bench "Well...of course I'll never be normal" he raised his right arm, and on it was a prosthetic.

Joseph reached over and patted his back "No, but who wants to be normal?" he quipped with a smile, then it slowly faded. "No word from her, huh? Sorry...I don't mean to pry, but it still burns me up that she did you like that".

Monty shrugged "No, and I don't really care anymore...no point in dwelling on it. I already let go".

The two sat and talked for a while longer, then Joseph stood up "It was great seeing you Monty, do you want a ride?"

Monty smiled "No thanks, I'll catch the bus back. I want to sit here a little while longer".

Joseph just laughed and shrugged "Alright man, suit yourself" and he gave a salute before walking away.

It had been two hours and forty-five minutes since he had been sitting there. He had to make it to the next hour, that way he could kind of brag to his therapist about how much he could endure. Reaching up with his prosthetic hand he caught himself and raised his left hand to comb long strands of his hair out of his face. It had been a year, and he had to learn how to do everything over with his left hand. It was hard and still is-as those habits are still there. He has to make himself reach for things with his left first and learn to support with his prosthetic. There were no complaints, he didn't ever whine or complain about what he was going through. The good thing about him was that he tried to focus on the present.

Just then a bus rolled up to the stop, people were coming off and a few were going on. Then he noticed a man wearing a suit with his tie loosened, he looked pale and sickly like he came down with the flu. The man walked to the bench and sat down and coughed which caused Monty to scoot away from him. The man looked over at him, his eyes were bloodshot "S-s-sorry...I think I got the flu" he looked very ill. Monty was concerned "You going to be okay?" the man nodded "I just need to get home and rest". The man had a slight rasping breathing sound, he looked like he was about to die as he sat back and closed his eyes. Monty just got up at that point not wanting to catch whatever it was. "...I don't know, I think you need to go to the hospital". The sickly man brought his hand up to pull at his tie "No, I'll be fine..." he was trying to breathe by the way he tilted his head back. There weren't a lot of people around at this point, some were going by, but none came to the stop. Monty dialed 911, he stood off to the side and gave information, he was worried the man would die. Right after making the call he looked over to see that the man's breathing was shallow. "Hey!" he called to him, but the man only moaned a bit and his head slumped over. "...Sh-t...." Monty couldn't risk getting close or anyone close.

It had been five minutes, and someone had walked by to notice the man "Don't touch him!!" Monty called out to the other man "...What?! He needs help!" Monty frowned "He's got the flu or something...I called 911, they're on their way". Soon a woman came over "Is everything okay? I'm a nurse" she had heard part of what was said. She went over to the man and watched him "He is still breathing" she went to press her fingers into his neck to feel a pulse. "Very faint, he needs help" she pulled out some cleansing wipes out her purse and cleaned her hands. "How long ago did you call?" Monty looked at his phone "It was just a few minutes ago" just then the Ambulance was heard making their way down, then parked right near the stop and rushed over with a gurney towards the man. The woman gave what information she had assessed from his pulse and his breathing and pointed over to Monty since he was the one to call. Monty's anxiety was up a bit, he could feel it but he was fighting it the best he could.

"How long has he been like this?" asked one of the EMTs as they worked fast at getting his oxygen going and an IV drip started.

Monty frowned "It wasn't long, he came off the bus and he looked so sick and said he might have the flu". The lights on the ambulance was making it tough to stay there, the sirens and the lights. "I hope he'll be okay".

The two EMTs had got him on the gurney and strapped him, then rushed him over to the vehicle and got him inside. They took off down the road and that was it. It was time for Monty to go home, he had enough for the day. The nurse looked over at him and she could recognize signs of PTSD, she walked over slowly "Are you okay?" Monty had reached up with his left hand and was rubbing his right shoulder "...Huh? uh...yes, I'll be okay" he nodded trying to be. The whole emergency situation was too much, the man looked like he was near death. The woman was concerned "Would you like a ride home? I can give you a ride". Monty looked at her then around "You don't have to, I can wait for another bus". The woman frowned a bit "That probably isn't the best idea, you need a quiet place right now". He then looked back at her, then he nodded slowly "Thank you..." it was hard for him to feel this way.

Soon they were driving out of the city, and the sun was setting at this point. Monty was surprised she even approached him "You never thought I could be dangerous, that I could hurt you?" he asked curiously, but it made him scared to think of such things. The woman just smiled "I have worked with a lot of patients like yourself. Wounded from the inside out, so I could tell that you weren't dangerous. Just vulnerable". Monty looked out the window "I don't want to be...but thanks for the ride". She turned down a road per his directions and turned onto a culdesac and parked. "Thanks again" he opened the door and climbed out, but he stopped "Wait, what's your name?" The woman just smiled "Bailey, and you?" it got him to smile a bit. "Monty". "Well, it was nice meeting you Monty, be safe" "Likewise" he smiled and closed her door. He walked up to his parents' house and fumbled with the key a bit to get inside.

Upon walking in he was greeted by his mother who hugged him and gave him a kiss "Are you okay?" she always asked him every day since the incident "Yes, I'm fine Mom" she smiled and just hugged him, but she could tell he had a rough day. "I just want to rest" she then released him "Okay, are you going to eat?" he nodded "Later, just going to lay on the couch". He kicked off his shoes and went to plop on the couch and removed his prosthetic so he could get comfortable.

It had been an hour when Monty had fallen asleep on the couch, he woke up to hearing the television on and his parents talking about what was going on. With a slight groan, he realized he had slept on his good arm and it was heavy and tingly. Sighing he had to prop himself up with his other one and try to push himself up while trying to shake blood back into the other one. "You okay?" his mother asked looking at him with concern, the young man nodded. "Yeah" then he looked at the television and noticed the news talking about the flu going around. Then everything from what earlier evening came flooding back, he reached his hand up and combed it through his long hair. His father frowned "One of my co-workers had to go home early, he was so sick. Our boss had one of the other guys drive him home since he was worried about him passing out". Monty felt worried, but he reminded himself that he wasn't that close to the man that was sick. There was no need to mention anything so his parents wouldn't worry about him, he just wanted some peace of mind.

Getting up he left for the bathroom, once in he flicked on the light and stood in front of the mirror staring at himself. Monty would at times stare at himself, trying to find good qualities about himself, trying to remain sane. He lost a lot of things, and it was very hard each and every day. What kept him going was the love and support of his family, his parents, his uncle and his cousin. He had a few friends that he did try to stay in touch with, but most of them in other states. He reached up to touch his face and felt around his jawline, he was a tall man standing at 6ft exactly, he had an athletic build since he tried to stay in shape. He had long dark brown hair. His skin was a soft caramel color, his eyebrows were thick and neat matching his hair. Monty was a full-blooded Native American, his family didn't live on a reservation when he was growing up so he didn't have to deal with a lot of obligations. There were his parents who did, but they left when they were younger to see what life had to offer.

Joining the military was a big deal, and it was something he wanted to do since he was young. After watching war movies and seeing the struggles, he wanted to help fight for a country he loved despite some issues he had growing up. It was a hard decision to make, and it took some convincing of his parents to let him join. It was supposed to be something he thought he could hold on to, to do for many years of his life. Just then he heard a knock on the door "Monty?" his mother was outside, she opened it and poked her head in "You're going to eat right?" He looked over and nodded "Yes, just waking myself up" he reached up and rubbed his face again before turning to leave.

The Walking Dead Empty Re: The Walking Dead

It felt very somber for him, Monty sat out in the living room eating his food while his mother flipped through the channels. His father had to leave that evening to drop off some paperwork downtown before closing hours, his mother let out a gasp as the news showed what looked like a cellphone video of a woman convulsing on the floor at a local grocery store. "Is...is that blood?" there was blood coming out of her nose and her eyes, and soon the camera ended. The news anchor went on to explain the situation, and how it was a highly virulent flu strain that was going around. Monty scowled a bit, then he stopped eating as the image of the man from earlier popped into his head again. His mother looked over at him "I'm sorry Monty...I didn't kn-" "No, it isn't your fault" he looked bothered and lost his appetite, so he got up to go to the kitchen. Once there he decided to wrap up his meal and save it for the next day and go back to sit in the living room. This wasn't living for him, he wanted his old life back, to go places and enjoy life as he had before things happened.

"I saw a man do the same thing earlier..." he finally stated while watching the news. His mother looked at him with concern "...Did he touch you?" "No" she felt relieved but still worried "Is he okay?" Monty shrugged "I don't know, he was taken by paramedics. What if this is on purpose?" Monty frowned "No, I'm not crazy...I'm asking because there was that time, where anthrax was mailed to some people". Eliza let out a sigh "Then god help us" she spoke, not trying to cause fear, but by being honest in the situation it was all she could do. "I wonder what is taking your dad so long" she looked up at the clock on the wall as it had been almost an hour since he was gone.

---------
The drive took longer with the number of detours he had to take, it was strange to the point he even stopped to ask the police officer about what was going on. There was a huge accident which resulted in a pileup and it was all that could be said. Ben was able to make it to the building on time to drop off some information on behalf of his boss, once that was done he noticed a man laying on the sidewalk just away from the building. There weren't that many people around since it was late at night, but it was strange for someone to lay like that. "Are you okay?" he asked as he walked over to check him, the man didn't move so he knelt down and rolled him over "...." the man's eyes were open wide, his mouth slack, and blood had run down from his eyes, and nose. "Oh...god..." Ben immediately got up and dug into his pocket for his phone, he dialed 911 and it was a while until he got someone. "Yes, there is a man laying...I believe he is dead, he's right outside the Morrison & Fox building...right down-Yes...I think he is dead...no, he has no wounds but he looks like he was bleeding from his eyes". Once he was told that someone was on his way all he could do is get back into his car and wait, it was eerie just being alone out there with a dead man on the sidewalk. It took about twenty minutes for the police to arrive, a lone officer pulled up and he got out to greet him.

The officer looked over the body and notice nothing externally that could be the cause, but he did take note of some blotchy rashes on the man's arms. Ben was worried at this point, he decided to make a phone call. While the officer called in for assistance he was calling his co-worker to see how he was doing, but it was the wife that picked up. "Hello?" Ben could feel his throat tighten "Hi Penny, it's Ben, how's John doing?" he could hear what sounded like a sigh like someone was overly worried "Well, I don't think he's getting any better. I think he got what has been going around, I might have to get him to the hospital...he's been so sick since he got home". Ben rubbed his brow and he continued to talk to her, then they hung up and he went back to talk with the officer. "You're good on your statement if we need further information we'll call you". Then he was free to go.
-----------

Eliza had fallen asleep in her chair with the news still on, Monty had also drifted but he soon woke up to what was being shown, it felt like it was a nightmare. Waking himself up more he got up and walked over to the television screen for a closer look. ["Breaking news, there are more patients coming down with this flu strain...there still isn't a known cure, we are currently waiting for more information from the CDC. They are hard at work at trying to solve this, until now they have a set of instructions regarding how to handle it". Monty looked back at his mother "Mom" she didn't respond since she was always a sound sleeper "Mom!" she woke up and looked at him a little surprised then squinted to look at the screen. "Look..." he stood back and they both watched. "This is getting bad, fast..."

The Walking Dead Empty Re: The Walking Dead

Post by Mr. Cuddles Sat Apr 27, 2019 4:57 pm

Hours had gone by, and Monty and his mother had both stayed up all night till the early morning waiting for him. It wasn't long till they heard the car pull in, Ben had parked in the driveway and sat for a while thinking about all that had happened in the last few hours. It took him longer to get home because of the traffic, people were trying to leave town. Monty opened the door and hurried out thinking something happened to him and headed for the car, he looked in through the driver side door and saw his father had this look on his face. Ben slowly turned to him then nodded to confirm he was okay and opened the door to climb out, he smiled at Monty "I'm fine". Monty sighed then his mother rushed out and hugged him tight "Elise I'm fine...okay? I'm fine". She buried her face into him "I was worried, it is getting so bad out there". Then there was a loud boom heard in the distance, then screaming. The three of them stopped and looked in the direction "...What the hell?" Ben stated while pulling from them to see if he could catch a glimpse of what was going on. A large apache helicopter flew over, then another, and then another soon followed. Monty's eyes widened "...They got the military involved...dad...we're in a state of emergency..." his mother's eyes widened as well. "Ben? What do we do?" It wasn't long till the other neighbors had stepped out to see what was going on, but it was hard to tell once the helicopters were gone, but the screaming was far. Looking around, Monty noticed Mrs. Warren wasn't around, in fact, they hadn't heard from her for a day which was strange. "Mom, have you heard from Mrs. Warren?" his mother looked over at the house "Last I did, she said her husband wasn't feeling well so she had been taking care of him...it has been awhile. I'll give her a call". Ben had climbed back into his car "Dad, where are you going?" Monty looked at him confused. "I'm going downtown to see what is going on, I won't be long". A couple of the other men also got in their trucks and cars and drove off in that direction as well.

The phone rang but no one was answering which was starting to concern Elise, she ended the call and looked at Monty with worry "I need to check on her, it isn't like her to not at least step out every now and then". Mrs. Warren was an older woman, she and her husband had been very helpful to their family since they first moved on and Monty was born. She even helped babysit him whenever his parents had errands to run or to give his mother a break when she needed it. "I'll go with you" Monty started towards the house and he knocked on the door with his left hand, there was nothing, no sound or anything. "It's quiet" he spoke looking back at his mother. "I'll go around the back" she stated as she stepped out and jogged around the house. Monty walked over to the windows and tried to peer in, he noticed there was a cup of possibly juice sitting on the table, but it looked like it had sat there while even a partially eaten pie looked stale. What was going on? Just then his mother came back around "Okay, I got the key". The Warrens kept their extra house key under a real rock in a garden in the back of their house, for just in case purposes. Elise walked up and worked at unlocking the door, she then looked to Monty as he nodded that he was ready before they went inside. The door was pushed open slowly, then the two walked in and looked around. It was strange, there were dishes in the sink, a pot of water sat on the stove but it wasn't on, there were vegetables laid out near a cutting board, it looked like Mrs. Warren was going to cook, but she didn't. "This is weird...mom..." Monty had a bad feeling, but he decided to continue on and look around, but he did see that things were left as if she was in the middle of something and ditched it. Elise shook her head "This isn't like her, to leave? She would have said something...I'll check their room" they were both feeling worried. Monty walked with his mother as they neared the bedroom, he reached out and turned the knob and they both slowly pushed it open. What they saw was going to haunt them both for eternity. "....." no words could be said between them.

Before them, laid Mrs. Warren, her body was mutilated beyond recognition, but it was the dress she wore that made them know. "...OH MY GOD! NOOO MRS. WARRRREEENNN!!" Elise freaked out, she started to scream and cry as she brought her hands up to her face. Monty felt queasy and felt like he was going to be ill, he then looked over and saw Mr. Warren standing and facing the window "...Mr. Warren?" just then, the man staggered and turned around in a shambling kind of way, as if he had no control over his own body. "Oh...oh god, Mr. Warren? Di..did you do this?!" the man looked very sickly, he lost all color to his face, his eyes looked sunken in and discolored with a pale hue. Monty stood back as the man started to stagger towards him, his jaw was slack and he was emitting a very inhuman sound. Monty looked on in horror as he noticed the blood on Mr. Warrens hands, clothes and around his mouth, he looked back to Mrs. Warren and immediately put two together. "Mr. Warren killed her". Elise had seen this and screamed at him "MR. WARREN!". Monty then grabbed his mom and pushed her out of the room, and he pulled the door shut "Call 911...something is wrong with him, what the hell kind of flu is this?!" just as he said this Mr. Warren was at the door, but he started to bang and claw at it, while making those gurgling groaning sounds. Elise and Monty stood back with terror on their faces, what was going on?
