Sky Riders Empty Sky Riders

For the longest time, Kael knew he was different from all the others, the people who raised him lived high on the mountains amongst the clouds. The story was he was rescued from a village on fire from when he was a baby, a rogue dragon had set it ablaze killing many. Luckily he was spared, but he had a burn scar on part of his chest and shoulder on his right side. Regardless of where he was from, he was raised like their own and taught their ways. These people lived alongside dragons, something completely normal to him. When a child does come of age they are given an egg to nurture, and they are to raise their own dragons. Every rider has their own dragon. They start this early so that they can have a stronger imprint, and as they grow together they will be strong enough to fight if there were ever a war. The people of the lands feared these people, but they stayed out of their way, they only fought off the rogue or more dangerous dragons and creatures. In a way, they were guardians of the lands.

Kael was just a typical eight-year-old boy, he was excited about the egg choosing ritual, but also nervous. "What if it doesn't like me?" he asked his parents who both were sitting at the table eating their breakfast. "It will like you Kael, as long as you care for it. You'll do fine". The boy munched on his meal quickly "Slow down son, you'll choke" his father chuckled "There will be an egg for you". Kael then picked up his mug with both hands and gulped down his drink before letting out a belch. "...I know, but I want to make sure it is the best one!". His mother smiled "You do remember to bow to the dragon right?" Kael nodded "Yep! I practiced all night! I wanted to make sure I was very respectful when she gives me her egg".

The ritual was a long time tradition, a chosen pair of dragons are mated and come the season any eggs that came the pair would give their eggs to the young children to help raise them. It wasn't cruel considering the parents got to see their young, but to enforce the imprinting and make it impossible for the dragon to turn on someone was to leave them in full care with the person from birth. The children would line up and the female dragon would nudge them an egg. The children didn't get to choose, she chose for them and it was what made the event a very defining moment. Not every child was going to get an egg, and that is if she sensed they are not worthy. If a child was not to raise an egg it wasn't always bad, but they were able to do other things besides becoming a rider and weren't likely shunned. The decision wasn't always known.

Kael was outside watching as some of the other children were waiting around and watching the female dragon from far. She was curled up on a hill with her eggs laid before her, she nuzzled them knowing she was parting with them. "Hey look" one of the boys pointed at him and snickered, he walked over and stood off to the side and kept to himself them "I hope you all know the importance of this ritual," the elder spoke with a stern tone. All of the children shushed when he spoke, they knew not to upset him. "Yes Master Tig" they all said in unison, there were about twelve of them consisting of some boys and girls. "Good" the older man then pointed at one of them "You, stand here, you will form a line". The girl he pointed stood where he told her to stand and soon he pointed for others to stand in a neat line. He even observed their behavior to also determine if any of them were worthy of such a gift. Kael did kinda stand out, to begin with, he was from the lands, and he looked a little different than them. Most of them had dark black hair, pointed ears, some had slightly tanned to cream-colored skin with almond-shaped eyes. As for him, he had fairer skin, dark brown hair and blue-silver eyes. There were times he did feel different when he would get teased by some of the other kids, and it wasn't just because of his appearance. They had seen his scar and some thought it was cool, but the bullies envied him in some way.

The families were gathering to watch as the children were then guided up towards the hill, they were soon stopped once they neared the dragon. The elder had them stand side by side in two rows and await further instructions. Master Tig then turned to the dragon and bowed before her "Oh, Haezza I thank you for honoring our tradition, and allowing for new generations to care for your offspring". The children were nervous but they watched and waited. The elder then stood off to the side then watched as the dragon looked them over. She then fixed her eyes on one child and raised her head for them to come forth. The young girl approached and bowed feeling very nervous, and the dragon could sense this, but she saw nothing but good in the girl. Haezza then nudged an egg towards her and the girl walked up and carefully picked up the egg. It was quite large and had weight, but she held it very carefully. It was a pretty egg, black with some white and blue specks. Most of the eggs had those, but some had some red, yellow and brown. Soon five more children were chosen. The dragon only had three eggs left. Kael was nervous and thought he wasn't getting one, but he wanted one. Ever since he had learned about it, he wanted to become a rider.

Just then he looked up and saw the dragon stare at him, she then raised he head for him to approach. Kael swallowed and moved towards her and bowed "Thank you Haezza" he spoke to her with a humbled tone. He watched as she was studying her eggs closely, she then pushed an egg towards him and he walked over and picked it up. It felt so warm to the touch, had weight, but he could carry it with no problem. Again he bowed to her before taking the egg and sitting off to the side with it cradled on his lap. The egg was large, but he was able to wrap his arms around it. Once the ritual was over, the children that did not get an egg bowed towards the dragon and walked back down the hill to their families, some were upset about it. Kael and other children were excited about their eggs, but they contained it as they made their way down to their parents.

"Well now, that is a fine Egg son" his father Dyten smiled from ear to ear. "I'm so proud of you" his mother patted him on his head. Kael was very happy, it was the happiest day of his life.

This was the day that started it all...

Sky Riders Empty Re: Sky Riders

Post by Mr. Cuddles Sun Jan 06, 2019 12:34 am

A few months rolled by and the eggs were starting to hatch. Every day, Kael would stay by the egg always checking, and just trying to make sure it was doing well. His parents were concerned about his lack of sleep and outdoor activities as he spent most of it by the egg. It was early morning and Kael yelped with joy "Mother! Father! it is hatching!" the boy was excited he sat staring at it as the cracks slowly formed on the shell. Dyten was the first to appear he knelt down beside him and watched in pure awe "This is always the exciting part, Sunete! Come!" he called to his wife who hurried over "It's time already?" she moved over to where they were and stood close by. "Should I help it?" Kael asked tempted to help pull off some of the shell pieces "No, this determines if it is strong enough to thrive. You just have to wait". The egg wobbled and more cracks appeared, soon the top started to split further open then it stopped. Kael was anxious he hated that it was taking so long, but he knew that he had to be patient and just let things happen on its own. "What if it doesn't thrive?" Kael was worried about it stopping as it did. "I'm positive you have a strong one Kael, you needn't worry". The egg stirred again then tipped over as a large chunk came off at the top of the egg. Soon a leg poked out of it as it tried to kick and push off the other pieces. They were all surprised, and Kael was beaming "Come on, you can do it!" he cheered the baby dragon on, but it was the look on his parents' faces that got his attention. "...Is something wrong?" his mother knelt down beside him "No, No there isn't...Kael you have a very special dragon".

Kael didn't really understand nor realize the importance of his mother's statement until the baby dragon fully broke out of his egg. The dragon pushed itself up and looked up at Kael and his parents, it tilted its head to the right then to the left then crouched back with a curious demeanor. Dyten smiled at it "The rarest of dragons" he spoke as he stared in awe "A white dragon, with blue eyes...Kael you did get the best egg". Kael's eyes lit up "White dragons are rare?" his parents nodded "Very, they're not born into a brood that often. The last white dragon would have been so long ago, the only thing is they are hard to tame". Kael didn't like the idea of it not being able to be tamed, but he intended on proving them wrong. He scooted up slowly towards it and reached his hand out for it to sniff, the dragon sniffed then licked at his fingers which got him to laugh. "We're going to be best friends!" the younger dragon made a small chirp.

---------------------------------

It had been a week since the dragons had hatched and his parents had to keep Kael from saying anything; for they feared many would not be pleased. Kael was frustrated about keeping the baby dragon inside, the other children were out and about with theirs. Due to the nature of the dragon's birth, they had the elder Master Tig come over to inspect it. "Ah, Master Tig" Sunete welcomed him inside and Dyten nodded to him "Thank you for coming, we weren't sure on if anyone should know about this yet". Kael was sitting in his room with the dragon who was laying comfortably in his lap, it seemed to enjoy resting as well as eating. "Mmhm, so you tell me that your son has a white dragon?" he asked with a serious tone. He was always a serious man and always wanted to get straight to the point. "Yes, he's this way" Dyten motioned for the elder to follow him to Kael's room. "Kael? we're coming in" he announced to not be rude. Upon opening the door, the elder's eyes had fallen onto the baby dragon. "...By the gods..." Master Tig didn't often show surprise or excitement but his reaching was real. "...Let me see it". Kael picked up the dragon and walked over towards the elder who reached out and took hold of it. "My...I haven't seen one since I was a young man...it has been far too long". Still, it was starting to sink in how important this dragon was. The dragon just stared at him curiously, then it tried to wiggle free. "Now now little one" Master Tig cradled it then soothed it "You do not need to fear me" he then looked it over "Young Kael, do you know how important this is?" Kael shook his head, then nodded it when his parents motioned for him to do so. Master Tig eyed him "To own a dragon such as this takes more than just skill, the white dragons are harder to tame. They are also the most dangerous" his serious tone returned. "It will remain in your care, but you must be diligent in its training. The worst thing that can be done is to destroy a beautiful creature such as this...don't let it come to that" he carefully handed the dragon back to Kael. "Do you understand?" Master Tig was stern tone, his eyes narrowed. "Y-yes sir" Kael nodded and held the dragon close "I will make sure it is trained well". "I will hold you to that" the elder then turned to leave, and his parents followed to see him off.

There was a concerned look on Kael's face, the thought of losing his dragon and having him destroyed for not being trained properly made him scared. "Don't worry, you're going to be the best dragon they have ever seen" he held it close to him.

Sky Riders Empty Re: Sky Riders

Post by Mr. Cuddles Fri Jan 25, 2019 3:06 pm

The day came for all the children to present their dragons for their progress, they had to put them through mandatory training every day. Each child stood side by side with their dragons on the ground before them-the young dragons had grown a bit in the few months since they were born. Most of them had dark scales, some with different colors blended it. There was an all black dragon, the girl that got to pick her dragon had one with dark blue scales running down its back. Kael knew that some of them were jealous of him for his white one, but some would make remarks hoping he would get his taken or destroyed. Envy wasn't so strong, but he could feel it while standing and looking down at Adish. It took a little time, but he was able to finally gender and name him. Adish was all white, his scales were pure as the snow and his eyes were an ice blue which made was the cause for how rare he was. Master Tig had appointed someone to oversee the viewing, and to rate how well they listened to commands. "A rider must have full control over their dragon, and it should never EVER ignore a command given to it" the man was tall and slender, he was completely bald and had the thickest of eyebrows. He walked slowly down the line looking at each dragon with his arms behind his back. "It will take a long time, and you won't be ready to ride them now, but what is important that you continue to train them. Have control over them, they are your partners in the sky, they need you as you need them". His eyes fell on Adish as he approached "Such a rare specimen, and how is his temperament?" Kael gulped a bit "He's good, he listens". The man raised a brow "Is that so?" he looked down at the dragon that was staring back at him. "Then let's see, shall we?" Kael felt his nerves grow into a giant knot, everyone was looking at him and he was very afraid in that instant. "N-now?" he stammered while looking around. "Of course, demonstrate how well he listens". Kael nodded then stepped forward "Come, Adish" the dragon followed him "Stay here" he pointed to a spot and the dragon moved to it and stood there, he tilted his head to the side while looking up at Kael. "Good boy" this made Kael feel a lot better "Ok, flip" he did his hand motion and Adish reared back onto his hind legs, then sprang up to do a flip while steadying himself with his wings.

Things were going well, and Kael felt very good, so he decided to try another trick they were working on "Do fire breath" up to this point no one has ever seen Adish's flames, and the color of flames a dragon breathed also determined how rare they were. Each dragon was unique, the majority had red flames, some had green, purple, and the rarest being blue. Adish let out a little cooing burble before opening his mouth and breathing out blue flames into the air. Gasps sounded amongst all the children and even the man looked stunned. Kael noticed their faces and some were either surprised by how cool it was, or some were annoyed by it. Adish twirled happily like a puppy chasing its tail before sitting back. "Very well" the man spoke in a stern town "Take your place back in line". Kael moved over and Adish followed and sat down again. He was between the girl who got her dragon first and a boy who wasn't too pleased by any of it. "My dragon will be better than yours" the girl muttered towards him without even looking at him. Kael was a bit surprised, then he frowned to himself. So what? He was going to have to prove himself even harder.

Sky Riders Empty Re: Sky Riders

Post by Mr. Cuddles Wed Jan 30, 2019 2:57 am

More time had passed and the children were tasked with demonstrating their proficiency in training their dragons again. This time, the tests were going to be a lot harder. Kael had been working hard with Adish, and the dragon wasn't as focused as the others since he was easily distracted by things, and although it posed a problem he was able to get him back on track. Duba stood alongside Master Tig looking over the children with the dragons. Adish was sitting and wiggling his tail while staring off at a butterfly that fluttered by, one of the other dragons saw it and snapped at it trying to eat it. Kael was nervous, and he was still afraid that Master Tig was going to try and take his dragon away. "Line up" Hykul walked up to the children "You will step, and your task is to get your dragon to blow fire at the target before you. It must only hit only the head, by now your dragon should have control over its breath. Young dragons learn quick, it must control how much it puts out at all times. This is important, should you ever be near civilization, you don't want it to set fire to the whole place. If your dragon sets fire to the whole target, then you fail the test. The materials on the target prevent the fire from spreading, therefore you should have no problem only getting the head". One of the children raised their hand "What if we fail the test?" Duba's eyes narrowed "If you fail, then you are allowed one more chance. Should you fail that too, you will have to give up your dragon". Kael gulped at the idea of it, he could sense the tension in the air. "Now, step forward with your dragon".

Adish was being stubborn and didn't seem interested in moving forward, he liked his spot where he was sitting and would much prefer to just nap there. "Adish, come on boy" he nudged him trying to get him to move. The dragon groaned and inched forward a little, but stopped. The other children had their dragons where they needed to be, and it took some doing but Kael managed to get him to move in closer. Master Tig watched him closely. "On a count of three, you will instruct your dragons to hit the target. One. Two. Three". Kael pointed to the head "Come on boy" Adish watched the other dragons blow their fire at the target, he blinked his blue eyes a few times and let out a yawn. Kael felt the pang of fear and embarrassment "Come on Adish, don't do this...hit the target, please!" he spoke in an urgent hushed tone. The dragon noticed Master Tig looking at him directly, he didn't like the man much, but he did look at the target. "Is there a problem, Kael?" Duba raised a thick brown at the young boy "N-no sir, he's just tired...Adish, come on". Some of the children had managed to hit the targets, some didn't hit the head of their target. "Hmm" Duba watched him closely "Well?". Adish flared his nose, then he blew a stream of blue flames towards the target, but he overdid it and burned the head completely off. Master Tig saw this with amazement, Duba was surprised but still annoyed that it happened "You need to better control your dragon, boy". Kael felt defeated "...But he hit the target, he didn't miss or hit anywhere else". Duba frowned "You did hit the target, but you had no control...I didn't tell you to destroy it".

It felt like everyone wanted to see him fail, even if he did follow instructions, or if he did everything right. Still, it was as if he was destined to fail no matter what. After the testing, Kael hurried home with Adish while near tears. It wasn't like him to cry about anything, but he was upset and scared rolled into one, and it left him feeling hopeless. His mother saw him run inside and go to his room "Kael?" he shut his door in front of Adish's face and threw himself on his bed and started to cry, he could feel those hateful stares when he would go their sessions. None of them liked him, even the elder and his assistant. His mother Sunete opened his door and walked in "Kael? Hey..." she walked over and sat on the bed next to him "What's wrong?". He sniffled quietly trying not to sound like he was crying too much "I'm a failure..." he muttered which caused her to frown "No, you're not" she retorted "You are no such thing, don't ever use that word!" she reached over and started to rub his back. Adish was standing by the doorway looking in, he walked over and stood up on his hind put his front feet up on the bed trying to look at him. "You raised a dragon, a beautiful one at that" Sunete petted the dragon and smiled. "So, what if no one likes you? You have to prove them wrong". Kael rolled over to sit up "I do that, and they keep finding fault...every time" he frowned and let out a sigh. "I try..." Sunete moved in and gave him a hug "I'll see if I can talk to Master Tig". Kael blinked "No...no, I don't want him to get mad". His mother just shook her head "I won't make him mad, I promise" she ruffled his hair which got him to laugh.

Just then, a loud pounding knock could be heard. Sunete frowned "...Hm" she got up to go check, as she got closer to the door the knocking was harder and louder. "I'm coming" she hurried and opened the door "Yes?" there were three guards at the door "We are here to take the dragon" Sunete felt her stomach sink "...Wha? why? He's done nothing wr-" "We have orders to remove the dragon, he is dangerous, please step aside". Sunete didn't understand what was going on "...Not till I talk with Master Tig first, did he give you that order?" They had stepped in at this point "You can't...I wish to hear what he has said". One of the guards pushed her aside roughly "These are his orders, to remove the dragon and bring it to him". Kael could hear the voices, he noticed Adish acting nervous with the threat just outside his room. By this time, Dyten had rushed home after catching wind of what was going on "...What are you doing here? Who sent you!?" he demanded in a strong tone, one of the guards readied his sword "Where is the dragon?" Dysten stood between them and his wife, trying to shield her in case of anything "Why?" One of the guards walked over to Kael's room and saw him holding onto the dragon. "Hand him over, boy". Kael frowned "...No" the guard walked over, and just then Adish blew flames at his arm melting the metal to his skin. The guard cried out in pain which caused the other guard to appear. Kael grabbed Adish and threw himself at his window while protecting his dragon. The glass shattered and the two tumbled outside on the soft grass. The guard that was injured was too hurt to do anything, his gauntlet was stuck to his flesh, and prying it caused him to cry out more. Soon, more guards showed up from the commotion.

Kael ran with Adish as far as they could go, they were chased by other guards "No, you can't have him" he climbed up one of the wooden lookout posts, and scrambled for the zip line. It would take him across to the other post that went downhill just a bit, but where was he going to go? The floating island was only so large, but he had to think of something. Just as he grabbed onto the line, he could feel the guard grab him around his waist. "NOOOO" he cried out while hugging onto Adish, the dragon latched himself to him and snapped at the guard for being a threat, he wasn't a violent dragon but he was reacting in defense. "STOP IT! LET ME GO!" Kael screamed as the guard dragged him back. The guard was trying to avoid getting bit, but Adish blew a fire blast at his helmet. Luckily it wasn't extremely hot, but hot enough to cause him pain as he cried out from the metal burning him which caused him to release the boy. Kael grabbed the zip line and the two slung across to the next post. Word got around fast, the other guards knew what was going down and were waiting for them. What was it worth? Kael didn't want to lose his dragon, he didn't want to die if they planned on killing him. "I can't lose you" they both landed at the second post, and he descended the ladder almost tripping, and ran as far downhill as he could. There, he could see the edge of the floating island, he wasn't sure where it would go, but if it was the only way off, then so be it. He wasn't going to let them take his dragon from him, he raised him, and he was chosen to be his rider.

Four guards were charging down towards him "STOP" they yelled at him, but he didn't, he kept running while clutching his dragon which was getting heavier and heavier by the minute. "I'm not going to lose you" he breathed out as he ran, his legs were tired but he was determined to get there. As he neared the edge he realized that it was a mistake, maybe he could reason with them. Kael stopped near the edge, he then turned to see the four guards with their swords drawn. "Don't move a muscle!" one of them shouted in a stern voice. Kael was frozen with fear, he was close to death if he stepped off, and if he stayed on land he was more than likely going to be in serious trouble. "No, you can't have him! I didn't do anything wrong!" as tired as his arms were he held onto his dragon, Adish's legs dangled and he looked around at all the guards with a snarl. Soon, he could see Duba approaching with two more guards "Let the dragon go, boy. If you give him up, we can ignore all of this". Kael frowned "You want to take him from me, you always did...you're jealous that he is the best dragon!". Duba smirked "Not in the slightest, I don't care if he is better...he's too dangerous for someone like you. He needs someone stronger...someone, not like you". The tone he used, Kael knew what he meant and it hurt. "No..." he held onto the dragon more as he could feel his eyes sting "No, I deserve him...we're both different, and no one accepts us!". Duba's eyes narrowed "Heed the warning child, or else". Kael shook his head "...NO!" he yelled as tears ran down his face.

The pain was sharp, yet brief, soon it pulsed along with his heartbeat. Kael could feel himself slipping into nothing, his body had grown light and he clutched onto his best friend for dear life. Duba yelled back at the guard "YOU FOOL!" the one that shot the arrow shot Kael forcing him off the edge along with his dragon. Kael still held onto Adish, he was in and out due to shock, he glanced over to his left to see the long arrow stuck just below his collar bone. He felt so light, he started to fall asleep.

Sky Riders Empty Re: Sky Riders

Post by Mr. Cuddles Wed Feb 13, 2019 3:42 am

There was so much white around him, his body felt like it was floating on a cloud, was he dead? alive? It felt like a dream like he was floating and drifting high above the clouds going nowhere. Then there was a wet sensation on his face, it was interrupting his dream, he woke up to find himself surrounded by white, he couldn't really make out much of anything but it looked like mist. For some reason the ground felt warm, he tried to roll over but then he remembered the arrow and it was still stuck in him. Kael let out a cry, then tears started to run down the outside corners of his eyes "Adish..." he choked while starting to sob, he remembered it all. His parents weren't there to help him and it was just him and his dragon, but he felt so alone in that instant. "Mom..." he sniffled, but he pushed himself up and winced, ho was he to remove the arrow? And where was he? The ground felt warm, not a normal sun warmth, but a warmth one would feel by being close to someone. After sitting up fully he could feel a gentle breeze against his back which sent a chill, but then he could hear a loud heavy rhythmic sound. Like that of a very large bird, he looked around and noticed Adish was a little uneasy with his footing. The ground? felt warm, but very firm like smooth leather. Adish was concerned for Kael and could see that he was in a lot of pain. "I'll be ok..." Kael had to figure out what to do, and where they were, he couldn't remove the arrow since he didn't have the proper means to. More of the mist was clearing and it allowed him a better look, then his eyes grew large. What seemed like a massive island, was, in fact, a very old and living creature. There were stories passed around about giant sky skates, they looked like massive versions of the water kind. This one was quite large, as big as an island. It moved gracefully through the air as if it had nowhere to really go. Now what? How was he supposed to get down, would talking to it help? Kael was in so much pain and it was hurting with each breath he took, he had to get to land quickly, or else he was sure that he would eventually die up here.

Adish whined while sniffing around then he licked at the 'ground' and made a face. Kael couldn't help but smile and try his hardest not to laugh. Perhaps he could make his way to its head and see if he could reason with it, or maybe it was wishful thinking that it would understand him. Pushing himself up carefully he started to walk slowly towards the head, he could feel the breeze push a little more, so he did his best to stay low so he didn't topple over. Adish started to follow him as they made their way closer to the head, he stopped a little way when he noticed a large spot of peach fuzz fur, he knelt down to rub it. Adish sniffed at it and the two continued on. It wasn't long till they got close to one of his eyes, he noticed the creature had more than a set of eyes, it had two on top, two large nostrils that he almost got his foot stuck into, and was sure it had eyes elsewhere. "EXCUSE ME!" he called to it as he started to crawl towards an eye, he looked down at it and almost spooked himself. The eyes were as large as his feet, but they were black and he wasn't sure if it was looking at him as they didn't blink. "I...I NEED YOUR HELP!" he yelled to it hoping it would hear him, the black eyes didn't move. These were fixed in their position and it was unsettling "Please..." he was still weak from the pain, but he had to do something. "I NEED HELP...I'M HURT!" it was hard to yell and he felt nothing but more pain, so he laid on his back and stared up at the emptiness. Maybe he was delusional, there was no way it would understand him. Adish moved over and curled up next to him "I'm scared..." he was just speaking out for himself "I can't go home...we're alone..." he closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep once more.

Sky Riders Empty Re: Sky Riders

Post by Mr. Cuddles Tue Mar 19, 2019 3:32 am

It felt like he was just drifting along on a body of water, his body rocking with the waves. Was he dreaming, or was he dead? Kael was still out, he wasn't waking up and could feel this nagging discomfort which eventually forced him awake. The arrow was still there, and by now it was getting dark, as tired as he was he pushed himself up and tried to look around, and to his astonishment, they were down near land. The giant flying creature had heard him? Or perhaps it was tired of him being on its back, it hovered low enough for him to slide off. Kael slowly pushed himself up, his dragon was right there with him as he allowed himself to slide down off of its fin. While holding onto his shoulder he turned to look at it and he smiled "Thank you" then with a massive push it slowly turned away and flew off into the mist. Would he ever see it again? Adish was sniffing around then he started to growl low which caught Kael's attention "...Huh, what is it?" he looked around but he didn't see anything. It was hard to really concentrate since he was still in a lot of pain, he stumbled forward and staggered as he caught himself and started down the hill until six people appeared with bows drawn. Who were they? They looked different, and they had their faces covered in paint to match their surroundings, they even had some leaves on their person to blend in.

Soon, a tall man stepped forward from behind them he too had his bow but it was lowered he was wearing a half-mask which covered his mouth. Kael was scared and he stepped back not knowing what was going to happen him, he had already been through so much. Soon, the man removed his mask and slowly approached him, he noticed the dragon and drew his dagger from his side. Kael saw this and started to move back more, but he tripped and Adish stood close beside him baring his teeth as he hissed out of protection. The man was careful and he studied the creature, but he noticed how injured Kael was. "Are you its master?" he asked, his voice was strong like a leader, he still gripped his dagger which didn't make the situation any better. Kael looked right up at him and winced as he was trying to push himself back up "...Yes, listens to me...I...I raised him" he stated in a quivering tone. The man frowned, then one of the people approached with the bow drawn "The dragon is a threat, it must be destroyed you said so yourself, sir!". The man raised a hand to signal him not to fire, and then he shook his head "Cage it, for now, we take the boy in he's hurt". Kael's eyes widened "NO, don't cage him! It will anger him, he's never been in a cage before!" The man eyed him, and let out a low stern grunt "Dragons are a threat to us, they have no place here boy". Kael saw two men approach and Adish was starting to react "No Adish, don't! Don't attack them, they'll hurt you! Calm down!" he pleaded not wanting to lose him. The small dragon eyed them cautiously then stayed close to his side, the two men had a cage they used for hunting and set it down. "Get him inside" the man instructed Kael who complied while apologizing to the dragon. "Be good, it is only temporary" he patted his head as he nudged him into the cage and watched as they closed it. Kael didn't like any of this, it felt like he was this prisoner and that he was being punished for coming here, but he had nowhere else to go. The two men then picked up the cage and started to walk off with him, Adish started to whimper and chew on the metal wires almost cutting through. The man frowned at this then turned to Kael who looked even weaker, then he saw the boy pass out, so he moved in and picked him up and the group set off for their nearby village.

Sky Riders Empty Re: Sky Riders

Post by Mr. Cuddles Thu Apr 11, 2019 3:38 am

When Kael came to he found himself laying on a padded bed on the floor, it seemed like they didn't have regular beds like he was used to at home. Pushing himself up he winced at the soreness in his arm, then he looked down to see that his shirt was missing, then he checked to see if they took off his clothes, but they only removed his leather shoes. Inside the hut, the walls were made of bamboo and neatly chopped wood that was cinched tight with twine allowing for air to come in and out, but also protecting from the elements. The floor was was wood as well and had a very light color with subtle grains. There was a rug, it looked hand made and it laid by the door. It felt like a cozy home, but he noticed that there were beds like his but they were rolled up in a corner, it seemed he was in a house that belonged to a family. Taking his time he managed to sit up more, there were lit candles off to the side from him, he reached up to rub where the arrow was and could feel that it was now wrapped in a bandage with a foul odor coming from it. Just then the door opened and a head peered in, the light coming from outside was bright and he squinted as the individual walked in and curiously approached then stopped to look at him. It was a young girl, she looked about his age and maybe a little older, then another one walked in behind her. They looked like exact copies of one another, but the other seemed more annoyed in expression than the other one was "Father said we can't be here" said the one that walked in last, she then glared at Kael as if he was an enemy. "But he is hurt" the other just frowned "He's friends with a dragon...". Kael looked up at them "...Hi..." the one that was glaring at him stood between him and her sister "We're not talking to you prisoner" Kael blinked "...What? but I did nothing wrong". The other sister frowned "No, he's not...they didn't final-" "He is a prisoner, he brought a dragon with him". Just then steps could be heard and the two sisters shrunk off to the side was a male walked in, he looked young like a teenager and frowned at them "Vinka, Vayna, our father will be upset that you're here". Then the twins glanced over at Kael then exited the hut, the young man was their older brother and he too also narrowed his eyes at him. Kael recognized him, he was one of the bowmen who tried to shoot his dragon.

The young man approached then he knelt down to look at him closely "That dragon of yours...you're lucky I didn't shoot him" it was like he was taunting him "You practically trespassed, and here you are getting your wounds tended to...your people are the reason why the dragons are a threat to us". Kael looked on scared "I...I didn't try to trespass...I was-" "I don't care, none of us care for your reasons...once you're better, you're going to leave his place and never set foot here again". With that said the young man stood up then walked out of the hut, the door shut behind him with a slight bang which made Kael very uneasy. The thought of being left on his own in the wild scared him, sure he knew some things, but he wasn't prepared. His lip quivered and he brought his knees up and buried his face as he shed a few tears. He didn't ask for this, he didn't want this to happen to him, he just wanted to be home with his family and continue training his dragon in peace.

Sky Riders Empty Re: Sky Riders

Post by Mr. Cuddles Sun May 12, 2019 4:02 am

A few minutes had passed and the door to the hut opened again, but this time it was a woman who was carrying a tray with two bowls, one had some cut up fruit, and the other had what looked to be porridge with something sprinkled on top, it even had a wooden spoon laying next to the bowl. Kael was not feeling relief, after dealing with the children cursing him he just didn't want to be there anymore. He quickly wiped away any tears that remained and tried to not seem too down, the woman raised a brow when she looked him over. "Are you in any pain?" she asked while setting the tray down next to him, she knelt down to touch his forehead and he slowly shook his head. "I understand that you are frightened, I also apologize for my children...they can be a bit brash, including my son Ferric". Kael didn't really say anything he just looked at her and then away "I won't hurt you, in fact, I find it cruel they want to treat you this way...you are just a boy" she frowned and gently reached over to check his bandage "Good, you're not bleeding. You're fortunate you didn't get an infection with having that arrow in you for so long" she took up the tray and set it down on his lap "Now, eat up. I'll check on you again soon, and they won't bother you I'll make sure of it". Kael blinked then he nodded as he saw her smile and leave the room. She was so kind to him, and it made him miss his mother more. As fresh tears formed and spilled out of his eyes he started to eat his porridge while fighting sobs, he was so hungry and homesick.

After eating his fill, Kael had laid back down to sleep again as all that crying he did had exhausted him. It wasn't long till the door opened again and it was the woman from before, he was sound asleep as she went in to take up the empty bowls and tray and leave him again. Then, the door opened again and in walked the man who stopped him, the man stood looking down at him sleeping "Wake up". Kael gasped and sat up looking over at the man startled, the man then walked over and knelt down on one knee and stared him in the face. "Does your arm hurt?" Kael gulped and shook his head "Move it then". Why was the man doing this to him? Kael started to move his arm a little, but it made him wince slightly when he could feel a quick sharp pain. The man eyed him, then stood up "Get up, and come with me". Kael pushed himself up and followed the man as they walked out of the hut, he could see the other people in the village staring at him. He wasn't sure what was going on, but he had a very uneasy feeling, as he walked out he noticed Ferric smirking at him and the twins looking on, as well as their mother who was hanging up laundry. The man walked him over to Adish's cage, it had been a while that Kael had seen him and it seemed Adish wasn't doing too well. "...Oh no Adish" Kael went to move up to the cage, but the man held his arm down to block him "It seems he has gone into a depression, I find it fascinating how he somehow obeyed you". Kael frowned "Of course he would listen to me, I raised him!" the man frowned. Adish looked over at Kael and his head perked up, he got up and ran up to the side and stood up gripping the bars wanting nothing more than to be touched by his friend. "You may interact with him, but he is to remain in this cage until further notice". Kael frowned "What? You can't do that to him! He's not a threat!" The man frowned at him "SILENCE, BOY!". Kael nearly swallowed his words at being yelled at. "Dragons have...cost us so much in the past years and no matter what they are all a threat". Kael looked over at Adish who was whimpering for him, he slowly walked over to pet him on his head "My people, they hunt the rogue ones". The man scuffed "Then they don't seem to be doing a good job, they can't kill them all".

Adish was making rhythmic cooing sounds which made Kael smile, then it slowly faded at the thought of not actually being able to hold him "I'm sorry boy, I wish it wasn't like this".

Sky Riders Empty Re: Sky Riders

Post by Mr. Cuddles Sun Jun 09, 2019 3:37 am

In the coming weeks, Kael was given various tasks to help with chores around the village, he even had to learn how to make weapons and was even taught some of the customs. It was a lot for him to take in, and a lot of the children resorted to taunting and teasing him whenever they could. During those days he was allowed to see his dragon, but Adish was growing and they were making a bigger cage for him. Ahalfar the leader still would not budge on the prospect of ever setting him free. Kael did try, he would try to prove to him by continuing training Adish through the cage, the dragon would listen but he was growing restless with not being able to stretch out. More time would pass and by then they had moved the dragon into a larger cage, there was some room but like before he was growing and he would only outgrow it at some point. It had been months and Kael had grown restless, and annoyed. This was going on for far too long and he hated how things were, but most of all he hated the way the other children treated him. No matter what he was still regarded as a joke to him, it wasn't his fault he was brought here and it wasn't like he could go back home.

It was night time and the people around the village were sitting around a fire laughing and talking about their day, most of them bonding with friends and family. Kael didn't ever join those, he preferred to just sit away and observe especially with Ferric glaring at him from every angle. The twin girls were near their mother, but it was Vayna that was also glaring at him. Of course, he was an outsider, and it was unfortunate that he had to be tormented like this, but no matter how hard he tried there was just no recourse. Sitting on a stone stool he ate off of a banana leaf, various fruits, and veggies for the meal that was served. Soon, Ahalfar appeared and stood next to him "You going to keep sitting alone?" Kael looked up at him then back down at the food "...I'm not wanted here, I don't want to be in the way" Ahalfar sighed "Listen..." he crouched down to his level and looked right at him. Ahalfar looked to be middle-aged, he had tanned skin and white blonde hair, his eyes were a deep brown. "Yes, you are an outsider...I hear what they say to you, and I have taken care of it" he frowned a bit, then sighed. "It isn't your fault Kael, and I'm sorry you had to go through all of that. I know you really want your dragon...and I have taken consideration for that to happen". Kael's face lit up as he looked at him "Really?" "Yes, now listen. Tomorrow for everyone you will demonstrate that you can control him and if he steps out of line...even a little..." Kael gulped as he knew what he was going to say "I promise I won't, I promise". Ahalfar nodded "Good, you keep that promise, I don't want to have to end him...he's a beautiful dragon". With that said, Ahalfar stood up and walked over to the group, he sat down next to his wife and twin daughters. Kael continued to eat alone, but he was feeling very happy.

Sky Riders Empty Re: Sky Riders

Post by Mr. Cuddles Fri Jun 21, 2019 8:39 pm

Tomorrow couldn't come fast enough, Kael was up early along with all the others and he hurried over to Adish's cage where Ahalfar, his son Ferric and a few of the other guards have gathered around. The other villagers had also congregated a little ways from the cage. Ahalfar nodded to Kael who stood in between them waiting eagerly to prove that he had control over his dragon, the others back at his home, well it was the elder who felt that he couldn't own the dragon due to its rarity and nature. Ahalfar stood forward and placed a gentle hand on Kael's shoulder, Ferric looked on feeling very irked by the gesture and crossed his arms hoping that it would all go wrong. "Good morning everyone, so glad that you all are able to attend this demonstration. As you have known we have a young man who has hailed from the land above, and he brought him a dragon" many of the people made noises of disapproval. "I know, I understand that you don't want it here...this child has pushed and pushed for me to allow him to prove that his dragon is not a threat". Again the people disapproved, but some with uncertainty. The twins pushed through the crowd until they were near the front. "I have taken measures, should the dragon step out of line during the demonstration. It will be put down". Kael started to feel nervous with all the people showing displeasure with the thought of a dragon being amongst them, he wanted to make them know not all were a danger.

Ahalfar then turned to the two guards who were near the gate, then he placed a hand on Kaels back to encourage him to go to the dragon. Swallowing hard, he walked over to the cage, the dragon was always happy to see him, he reached through the bars and rubbed his head "Just do as I say, okay?" the young dragon cooed and snorted in response. The guards opened the cage which allowed Adish to walk out, but of course, they had to shackle one of his back legs so he couldn't fly off and do any destruction. Kael then motioned for him to walk out further, then he petted him again. "Okay, now, show them what you got boy" he smiled and signaled for him to spread his wings which he did, and push off the ground just a little and not too high cause of his tether. Adish flapped his wings gently and everyone looked on at the white dragon, many of the children were amazed by what they saw, even a lot of the adults. There were ooh's and awe's but there were a few that still felt perturbed by it. The demonstration continued, he showed how the dragon would speak on command by letting out his roar which wasn't very loud, but loud enough, and even little chirps and coos. Then it came time to prove that he could control his fire breathing, it wasn't a very easy thing to do since the dragon didn't realize how strong he was. Kael took a breath and held his hand up which signaled Adish to land and stand on his hind legs "Now, fire breath!" the dragon put his head back and blew a stream of hot blue flames into the air, then stopped. The people in the crowd all gasped in horror, though many were fascinated, there were those who did not like it. Ahalfar could hear their panic, and it was understandable as many fled their homes cause of the destruction from other dragons. Ahalfar stepped forward "CALM!" he called out "Everyone please, calm down". Adish stirred and crawled close to Kael as their panics also made him uneasy. "Young Kael has proven he can control his dragon". An older man called out "For how long?! How long until it turns on us?" A woman spoke out "What if he is angered and he sends his dragon to hurt one of us?". The children who had bullied him were scared, they shrunk back with the idea of him seeking revenge looming over them. Kael shook his head "No, I won't do that! I would never send him after you!". Ahalfar held his hand up to signal Kael to step down "I know you are all scared, but I promised him a chance. I only ask that you give it to him too, please. I know that we have all been through so much, but if he can prove to us on how we can coexist with dragons then let us give him that chance".

Ferric smirked at the thought if all going wrong, with the people holding doubt he knew he could sway them even further. Looking little ways to the right he signaled a friend of his, the young man sat high in a tree holding a slingshot with a tiny metal barb he would aim at the dragon. Drawing the string back he aimed right from its back, then he released. All that could be heard was a shriek from the dragon, then he took off into the air but got snagged by chains. Adish twirled and started to growl, and screech from the pain it made him frantic. "Adish!" Kael called out to him and this made Ferric smile big "As you can see father, it looks like the boy can't control him...look at him". Ahalfar was confused, the young man who shot the dragon had slipped away fast. Kael tried to calm him down "No! Adish! Calm down!" the dragon hissed and breathed fire. Ahalfar frowned at this "What is going on Kael?" Kael felt tears in his eyes "I don't know! ADISH!" the dragon eventually dropped down and cried out. Ferric scowled hoping his plan worked enough "Everyone, it goes to show that if the dragon is startled by anything it cannot be controlled!" he called out to the crowd. "What if someone was to poke at him, throw something at him, hurt him, what if? Sure he listens to little commands, but whose to say he won't act out when threatened?". Kael got close enough to look at the dragon, he noticed the barb embedded between two of his scales "...Wait...you did this?" he turned to Ferric, and Ahalfar was mad "You dare sabotage-" "Sabotage? Father, you told us that they were dangerous no matter what...I was merely proving that they are still feral no matter what". Ahalfar was angry at his son "Leave Ferric" Ferric just shrugged and smiled "Sure father, but soon you'll come to your senses". The young man walked away, and a few of the people joined him. Kael pulled at the barb and Adish shrieked in pain and Kael rubbed the spot which had bled a little. "It's not fair...IT'S NOT FAIR! I tried..." he started to sob as he hugged onto the dragon. Ahalfar turned to Kael then he walked over to him "I'm sorry Kael". "It's not true, I can control him. I can! This wasn't his fault! He's scared!". Ahalfar felt terrible about it and knelt down to look at the dragon, Adish then hissed at him and shrunk back closer to Kael. "Kael...it may not be a good time for him to be out". Kael looked at him with wide watery eyes "NO, you promised. IF I can control-" "Yes, but...Adish panicked...we don't know if he can handle dangers. And it seems he is protective of you".

It was a big blow, Kael had tried so hard to do everything right, and it all went down the drain. "Please...don't kill him, give him another chance". Ahalfar nodded "If you can train him further to not be a threat when cornered, then he can be free. For now,  he has to go back into his cage". Kael cried a little longer as he hugged onto Adish "Okay, I'll train him better. I'll make him better".

----------------------------------------------------

Over the years Kael had spent much of each day training Adish, he was determined to make him a little more domesticated, he worked at it even on days he was tired, or when he came down with a fever he trained him. One of the twins, Vinka took notice and had even taken the time to help him, she believed in what he was doing and at times it was hard for her since her twin sister Vayna did not approve of her being near him or the dragon. As time went on Kael felt that he and Adish both reach their perfect balance, Ahalfar also helped by recommending different people who were brave to get near the dragon so that he didn't feel so frightened by them. Adish was taken by some of the children and it was one brave girl and boy who were able to get near him, they didn't show fear and were very curious which made the Dragon feel more comfortable. It was the miracle Kael wanted, and soon more children would come around and Adish was more accepting, eventually, Ahalfar allowed the dragon to be out of his cage, but he had to remain tethered for the time being until more people felt comfortable. There were some moments, and one being that Ferric tried to stir trouble, he tried to enrage the dragon but instead with his training the dragon just growled at him. It was frustrating for him to not get the reaction he wanted because people should fear dragons not be their friend.
-----------------------------------------------------
.::::11 YEARS LATER::::.

It was finally the moment Kael had been waiting for, he was allowed to have Adish free from his binds and was given a simple mission. Ahalfar came to him that morning to wake him, and when he walked out he saw that Adish was wearing a harness which was a huge surprise, he looked at Ahalfar confused "H-how did you know how to make a dragon saddle?" Ahalfar smiled "Well, those drawings you had...I came across them and gave them to our smith, you have great detail". Kael smiled a bit then he walked over and rubbed Adish on his shoulder "It...looks like..." then it hit him, he never once got to fly him cause he didn't have a saddle, he planned on making it himself once he was allowed to free him. The only thing he could do was let Adish fly around so he could stretch his wings. Tears streamed his eyes "I don't know what to say". Ahalfar smiled "Take him for a ride". Kael smiled and quickly hopped up on the saddle and gripped "This, feels great". Ahalfar by now was older looking, but he still had his blondish white hair, he was now sporting a mustache and beard "Well? Go on". Without hesitation, Kael got Adish to rear back and soon they were up on the air, now the real training was about to start.
